When Jean Cassegrain creates Longchamp in 1948, it was originally created in order to supply men with unique leather cases for their smoking pipes. This new product quickly became a great interest piece for collectors and enthusiasts. Soon after, the Longchamps brand managers decided to start breaking into new markets in new countries. Quickly these pipe products were sold all over the world, including notably in shops that supplied United States army bases. However it was in Asia that Longchamps products met their greatest success by supplying airport shops with their product in the 60’s. Their success in the Asian market was so great that in 1979 the worlds first exclusive Longchamps shop opened in Hong Kong.
